Meet Pedro Gutierrez | Council Member

Pedro Gutierrez has been the Regional Head of Latin America since 2018 for the NEM Foundation and has been responsible for scaling NEM’s blockchain technology in many different industries including universities and government.
At the end of 2018 he was elected as a Council Member for the NEM Foundation and has been working on preparing the first online training for Catapult and face-to-face technical training for the Latin American public.
Pedro’s background involves being a systems engineer and a long time tech entrepreneur. Between 2001–2003 he participated in the dot-com boom as a category manager at MercadoLibre, the first online auction site in Latin America and currently the largest marketplace.
In 2008 he was the founder and CEO of the first dental franchise in Venezuela that was a pioneer in programming online appointments throughout the country. Thanks to the impact of his franchise in Venezuela, he was appointed principal director of the franchise chamber of Colombia and Venezuela between 2015 and 2017.
In 2016 he founded the company Synergy CriptoAdviser in Colombia, which offers services for training and support for those interested in cryptocurrencies and blockchain.
Why do you like NEM?
I like it because it is very easy to develop applications on the NEM blockchain. Our approach is also 100% business which gives our community greater confidence in generating real use cases in areas such as government, banks and private companies.
What do you see as the biggest challenge for the next year?
The biggest challenge is positioning NEM as a real option within government and collaborating in global adoption.
What part of Catapult are you most excited about?
Interoperability really is the most exciting. To have a technology that allows our customers to make swap exchanges between different technologies will be what really takes us to another level.
